Join A Committee

Joining a committee with the Miami‑Northwestern Alumni Association is a terrific way to stay connected, support the school community, and make a real impact. As the alumni group advocates for students, preserves the rich history of the Bulls, and runs scholarship and mentorship initiatives, serving on a committee (like Fundraising, Scholarship, or Public Relations) gives you a direct hand in organizing events, launching fundraising efforts, and shaping programs that benefit current students. Select a committee below.
Ways to Join:
Before selecting a committee, please ensure you are a current member of the Alumni Association and have fulfilled all financial obligations (annual dues) for the year. Select a role where your skills align with the committee’s goals and where you feel personally motivated—this will set you up for success and long-term impact.
Scholarship Committee
The scholarship committee is composed of representatives from academic departments, financial aid or student support offices, and occasionally external stakeholders like donors, ensuring decisions are well-balanced and fair. Our role is to review applications, evaluate candidates against predetermined criteria, decide recipient selections, and uphold transparency and compliance throughout the process.
Hall Of Fame Committee
The Hall of Fame committee typically consists of a select group of experts—such as former players, coaches, media members, executives, and alumni representatives—whose makeup ensures diverse perspectives and domain knowledge. This committee is responsible for collecting and reviewing nominations, vetting candidates based on established criteria, deliberating in meetings to shortlist finalists, and then voting.
40 under 40 Committee
The 40 Under 40 panel—often including past honorees, industry leaders, association representatives, and sometimes media or community figures—so they can collectively review and evaluate candidates based on established criteria. The committee role is to vet nominations, score applicants (often on leadership, impact, innovation, and community involvement), deliberate to determine finalists, and ultimately vote to select the 40 most deserving individuals.
Special Events Committee
The special events committee focuses on areas like logistics (venue, permits, catering, AV, décor), fundraising/sponsorships, publicity, volunteer coordination, guest experience, and entertainment—ensuring every detail from planning through execution is handled effectively. It brings together board/staff members, donors, and skilled volunteers who collaborate to create memorable and successful events that align with the organization’s mission.
Marketing & Public Relations Committee
The Marketing & Public Relations committee members—often including a PR Chair, marketing director, social media/content specialists, and volunteers—who collaborate to shape the organization’s brand identity, messaging, and outreach efforts. The committee responsibilities include crafting and executing comprehensive marketing communications plans (encompassing social media, newsletters, web content, and press releases), managing media relations, overseeing branding consistency, evaluating campaign performance, and supporting fundraising and event promotion.
